Brick calculator
Enter the wall size, subtract windows and doors, and pick a brick size. Counts include standard 3/8 inch mortar joints.
Bricks needed
709 bricks
- Wall area
- 100 sq ft
- Bricks per sq ft
- 6.75 with 3/8 in joints
How it works
Each brick effectively covers its face size plus one mortar joint on the side and top. A modular brick with 3/8 inch joints takes up 8 × 2⅔ inches, so it takes 6.75 bricks to cover a square foot of wall. The calculator multiplies your wall area by that figure and adds your extra.
Example
With wall length 20 ft, wall height 5 ft, openings (windows, doors) 0 sq ft, brick size: modular (7⅝ × 2¼ in face), extra for breakage and cuts 5%, the answer is 709 bricks.
Tips before you buy
- This is for a single layer (one wythe) of brick. Double it for a two-layer wall.
- Buy all your brick from the same production run. Color varies between batches.
- Ask your supplier how much mortar to buy for the brick and joint size you’re using.
