Pool volume calculator

Choose your pool’s shape and enter its size in metres. You need the volume to dose chemicals and size a pump.

For a flat-bottom pool, enter the same depth twice.

A garden hose typically delivers 10–20 litres a minute.

How it works

The calculator finds the surface area for your shape: length × width for a rectangle, π × radius² for a round pool, and π × half-length × half-width for an oval. It multiplies that by the average depth to get cubic metres. Each cubic metre holds 1,000 litres.

To measure your hose’s fill rate, time how long it takes to fill a 10 litre bucket.

Example

With pool shape: rectangle, length 8 m, width 4 m, shallow end depth 1 m, deep end depth 2 m, fill rate 15 L/min, the answer is 48,000 litres.

Tips before you buy

  • Measure to the water line, not the top of the wall.
  • If the deep end is a short drop rather than a steady slope, measure the sections separately and add them.
  • Write your pool’s volume down somewhere handy. Chemical doses are based on it.
