Skirting board calculator
Enter the room size and doorways. Works for skirting and, with doorways set to zero, for coving.

How it works
Skirting runs around the room’s perimeter, 2 × (length + width), minus the width of each doorway. The calculator adds a cut allowance and divides by the length of each board.
The count assumes offcuts can be used on short walls. If every wall needs its own boards, work out each wall separately, since a 4.5 m wall can’t be covered by one 4.2 m length.
Example
With room length 4 m, room width 4 m, doorways 1, doorway width 900 mm, length of each board: 4.2 m, extra for cuts 10%, the answer is 15.1 metres.
Tips before you buy
- Longer lengths mean fewer joins on long walls.
- Corners take extra material, especially coving. Use 15% or more for rooms with lots of corners.
- Let timber skirting sit in the room for a couple of days before fitting so it adjusts to the humidity.
Common questions
How much skirting for a 4 × 4 m room?
16 m of perimeter minus one 900 mm doorway is 15.1 m: four 4.2 m lengths with 10% extra.
How do I measure for skirting board?
Measure each wall at floor level, add them together and take off the doorways.
Do I take off doorways for coving?
No. Coving runs the full perimeter at the ceiling, so set doorways to 0.
